As birth doulas, our primary jobs are to help women have physically and emotionally safe and healthy births. Over the years we've found ourselves doing extensive education with our clients on how birth, and even our bodies, work.
We've come to realize that women have experienced a loss of communal wisdom--knowledge that used to be passed down through generations is just no longer there. This ranges from women having never seen a birth, or knowing what breastfeeding entails, down to the more basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, how our cycles work, and how they relate to our overall health and well-being. We aim to change the narrative, one girl at a time, by building a foundation of knowledge about how women's bodies work starting with puberty and going all the way through menopause. We want to develop love and respect for our bodies, host uplifting body discussions, and teach the power of knowing you are the owner of your own body and mind. |
